As predicted, early Sunday afternoon was filled with controversy.
Obviously at the epicentre of it was an old foe for Rangers in Scott Brown, who successfully managed to aggravate tensions within the Gers’ camp. The man simply lives for it and – if you’re a Hoop reading this – you’ll absolutely love him for it.
People who won’t love him quite as much will include the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, who both ended up losing their temper, painting Brown as Glasgow’s number one villain in their eyes. A hero in others.

However, in between all the drama, the experienced midfielder’s diligent work ended up being overshadowed. He was the Hoops’ engine in the middle, feeding balls into his attack, while also fulfilling his defensive duties. Indeed, Brown enabled Celtic to gain control and eventually go onto win the game, also being decisive in making Rangers go down a man.
Despite being subject to a lot of abuse, he stood his ground and remained a hard-hitting figure. It’s no wonder Neil Lennon’s started him in every game since his arrival in February, just a few weeks after suggestions the former Hibernian ace would see his career out in Australia.
Thus far, Lennon’s rotated with multiple players, yet Brown’s always been the leader to keep pumping up the energy to the team.
Having worked under Lennon previously, Brown knows what his manager wants from him. He’s operating as needed, stopping moves in midfield, bullying opponents and being a vocal leader in kick-starting attacks for his side.
While Brendan Rodgers was more intent on focusing on beautiful football, Lennon’s allowed Brown to play his natural game to be that cunning thorn in midfield. The captain can be whatever his side need him to be and his never-say-die attribute is his manager’s biggest strength in keeping the winning mentality going at Celtic.
