تحدث دييجو سيميوني، المدير الفني لـ أتلتيكو مدريد، في تصريحات عقب الفوز على سيلتا فيجو (2-0) في الدوري الإسباني، وعلّق على مباراة فريقه المرتقبة أمام بايرن ميونخ في دوري أبطال أوروبا، المقرر لها الأربعاء المقبل.

وعلق سيميوني على شراكة دييجو كوستا ولويس سواريز، في الهجوم، ونشرت صحيفة “ماركا” الإسبانية تصريحاته.

وقال: “سيخبرنا الأطباء كيف حال دييجو، أحببت تواجد سواريز وكوستا، تسمح خصائص الاثنين باللعب معًا، يعطوننا القوة والوجود والشخصية في المنطقة، بالطبع يمكنهما اللعب معًا، مثل فالكاو وكوستا وفيا وكوستا”.

وتعرض كوستا للإصابة في المباراة ولم يتمكن من استكمالها، وأصدر أتلتيكو مدريد بيانًا بشأن الإصابة (طالع البيان).

وأضاف بشأن المشاكل في الدفاع: “أعتقد أنها حدثت في الشوط الأول، لكن في الشوط الثاني لم تكن هناك أخطاء، منحنا وجود فيليبي وهيرموسو في الخلف قوة أكبر، لقد قمنا أيضًا بهجمات مرتدة”.

وتابع: “عندما غادر كوستا كنا بحاجة إلى أشخاص طويلة القامة ولهذا جاء فيليبي وجعلنا هيرموسو على اليسار، في الشوط الأول خلقوا خطرًا، لكن في الشوط الثاني لم يعد الأمر كذلك”. 

وأكمل: “وضعنا جواو ويورينتي وكاراسكو في مكانة لخلق خطر بالهجمة المرتدة لحسم المباراة، لكن الهدف لم يصل و0-1 صعبة، ولحسن الحظ سجلنا الثاني”.

وأشاد سيميوني بتوريرا: “إنه لاعب مجتهد، ينافس بشكل جيد للغاية وسيمنحنا الكثير من القوة في الوسط إنه سريع في حركة الكرة، من اليوم الأول أظهر خصائصه إنه لاعب سيعطي كل شيء للفريق”.

وبشأن كوكى وتوريرا، علّق: “يمكنهما اللعب معًا لأن لديهما خصائص جيدة والتمريرات بين الخطوط، كوكي يعطي كل شيء للفريق واليوم أظهر ذلك”.

وأتم بشأن مواجهة بايرن ميونخ: “سنواجه الفريق الأفضل في العالم من حيث القوة والضغط، إنها مباراة مهمة للغاية بالنسبة لنا ومن التواضع سنحاول إيجاد حلول لما عانينا منه اليوم في الشوط الأول”.

أعلن المدير الفني للفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي برشلونة، رونالد كومان، قائمة اللاعبين لمواجهة فيرينكفاروس في الجولة الأولى من دور المجموعات لبطولة دوري أبطال أوروبا.

وتنطلق المباراة بين الفريقين في تمام الساعة التاسعة مساءً بتوقيت “القاهرة” مساء اليوم، الثلاثاء، على ملعب “كامب نو”، بقيادة الحكم السويسري الدولي، ساندرو سكارار.

تحدث لاعب فريق شيفيلد يونايتد ريان بروستر عن مواجهة فريقه السابق، ليفربول، في مباراة اليوم ببطولة الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.

ورحل بروستر عن ليفربول وانضم إلى شيفيلد، في موسم الانتقالات الصيفي لهذا العام.

وقال بروستر، في تصريحات نشرتها شبكة “ليفربول إيكو” الإنجليزية: “سيكون الأمر غريبًا بعض الشيء (مواجهة ليفربول)، لكنها ستكون لحظة جميلة لمجرد رؤية الجميع”.

وأضاف: “لم يكن بوسعي أن أقول وداعًا للاعبي ليفربول لأن الأمر حدث بسرعة كبيرة”.

West Ham United targeted Marcelo Bielsa in 2015, prior to appointing Slaven Bilic, according to reliable source Ex-West Ham United Employee.

Bielsa is now Leeds United manager, with the Hammers choosing to replace Sam Allardyce with their former defender instead of the then-Marseille manager.

On the chalkboard

It is fair to say that West Ham’s squad might have looked different had Bielsa taken over.

In the 2015/16 summer transfer window, the Hammers signed Dimitri Payet, ironically from Marseille, with Bielsa having transformed him into a star in France. Had he moved to Upton Park, he may well have brought the playmaker with him.

Manuel Lanzini also arrived – a player Bielsa would surely have admired – but the likes of Pedro Obiang, Carl Jenkinson and, in January, Alex Song may not have been trusted to adapt to Bielsa’s high-intensity way of playing.

The eccentric boss prides hard running and high pressing over anything else and works his players to the bone.

Song and Obiang are statuesque midfielders, while Jenkinson is not blessed with any sort of pace.

Nikica Jelavic, a £3 million addition from Hull City, would never have been scouted, let alone signed, though a deal for Michail Antonio may well have been struck – he is a player with pace and energy to burn and may well have worked well under Bielsa.

Mauro Zarate was sold in January and he is exactly the kind of full-throttle forward the Argentine loves.

He could have been gifted another chance under Bielsa’s stewardship, while, conversely, it is difficult to imagine the likes of Andy Carroll, Mark Noble and James Collins getting much of a look in.

A formation change

Leeds tend to line up in a 4-1-4-1 formation in the Championship.

Under Bilic, the Hammers played mostly with a 4-2-3-1 system that allowed Dimitri Payet to thrive.

Bielsa tends to partner attacking thrust with defensive solidity and there may well have been an alteration to the way the Irons played.

There would, naturally, have been many changes to the playing staff too, as well as the coaching team.

One can be absolutely sure that West Ham will have run that little bit harder and pressed that little bit higher had Bielsa been on the touchline.

Arsenal take on Napoli on Thursday evening.

The Gunners take a 2-0 lead to Italy as they look to qualify for the Europa League semi-finals.

Unai Emery has been ebullient in his pre-match statements, insisting, per the Daily Telegraph, that they will attack the Serie A club in the Stadio San Paolo.

Petr Cech, of course, has played in each knockout game for the Gunners in the Europa League, and kept a clean sheet in the first leg. He is likely to replace Bernd Leno.

Both Shkodran Mustafi and Konstantinos Mavropanos should drop out, with Sokratis drafted into a back three.

Utilising wing-backs adds an extra dimension to the club’s attack, with Mesut Ozil charged with supplying the chances to both Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

كشفت تقارير فرنسية مدة غياب البرازيلي نيمار دا سيلفا نجم باريس سان جيرمان، عقب إصابته في مباراة فريقه أمس الأربعاء أمام باشاك شهير في دوري أبطال أوروبا.

26 years of age. 26. Over two-and-a-half decades.

Many footballers tend to hit their peak at this age, having already recorded some respectable figures in the earlier years of their career – well, those at the top level have, and Manchester United should be considered in that bracket.

So, how come a player as ineffective as Jesse Lingard, a man who has somehow made 35 appearances this season, can get away with doing very little at one of the world’s elite clubs?

You almost forget that he is 26. Graeme Souness even said that Lingard needs senior players to look up to in this United team, before Roy Keane and Gary Neville both criticised Pogba for not being that fatherly figure – the Frenchman is three months younger than Lingard.

Whilst he is hardly prolific, nor does he set up too many goals, one stat shows just far out of his depth Lingard is at this level, and how much he has stagnated. Raheem Sterling, a man two years younger than Lingard, has hit 23 goals this season, compared to the United man’s 5.

How have Manchester United, a side who have won the Premier League title a record 21 times, gone from having excellence such as Cristiano Ronaldo on the wings, to persisting with a player better known for his dance moves and amount of Instagram followers?

The fact that no-one really questions his involvement in the team or points the finger at him like they do with Pogba when things are going wrong suggests that the fans have settled for less. They are accepting mediocrity and are not questioning it – in stark contrast, Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez are struggling for game time over in the blue half of Manchester.

If you delve a bit deeper into their career stats as a whole, it gets worse for Lingard and clearly shows the disparity between the level at which Manchester City and Manchester United are currently competing at.

Lingard has only scored 41 goals throughout his entire career. Sterling has hit 46 in just the last two seasons.

As aforesaid, the former Liverpool forward is a whole two years younger than his fellow Englishman on the red half of Manchester; so what has Lingard been doing for those extra two years?

He either needs to cut out the dancing and the social media antics and knuckle down on his football, or United need to be ruthless and get rid of their academy graduate.

His continued presence in the team, compared to the ruthlessness shown over at the Etihad in recent years, is emblematic of the growing disparity between the two sides.
