According to The Sun, Barcelona are keen to take advantage of the current crisis at Manchester United with a £100m swoop for Marcus Rashford, who has arguably been one of the club’s best players this season.

The England international’s contract is up next summer and he is unwilling to sign a new deal at Old Trafford right now, which has alerted the Spanish champions to the situation.

Whilst that seems like a perfectly reasonable, normal scenario in the transfer market, the reported fee has left some eyebrows raised.

Rashford has scored 45 goals for his boyhood club in over 167 appearances, and whilst he is an impressive young talent, it is debatable whether or not he’s worth such an extortionate sum.

“Never in a million years is Marcus Rashford worth £100m and if Barcelona spend that kind of money on him then football has lost the plot. There’s no denying Rashford’s ability and potential but he isn’t anywhere near the level Barcelona require. The striker continues to improve year on year in an inconsistent United side, but for me, it would be incredibly questionable if a club were to pay such a large amount for him.”

“Ask this question in a couple of years’ time and the answer may be different. However, at the moment, Marcus Rashford is way too inconsistent to be considered Barcelona material. And as for that price tag, it is an absolute joke. But stranger things have happened in football, especially in the crazy modern era. Therefore, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Spanish giants saw his respectable haul of ten goals and seven assists in the Premier League this season as being worth that kind of money.”

“While I certainly don’t think Rashford should be valued at £100m, it would be no surprise if Barcelona ended up paying that fee. The 21-year-old is clearly hugely talented and I believe he would rip it up in La Liga given the attributes that he has. The issue for Barca is if they wait and Rashford becomes a world-beater at United then they may not be able to get him, so shelling out £100m for him now after a quiet season in general could prove to be a genius call. That said, Ed Woodward’s head would be on the line if Rashford did go, given he is already unpopular with fans and with the England international being a local lad.”

Like in their previous encounter where they came out 2-1 victors, Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League clash versus Watford is likely to be another tight affair.

The Blues and the Hornets have quality players all over the pitch, with their midfields standing out in particular.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has really come into prominence in recent weeks, while Abdoulaye Doucoure has been a real presence in the middle of the park for his side since arriving from Rennes.

With that in mind, as they prepare to do battle against each other on Sunday, how do the two midfielders compare?

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

It has taken some time, but Loftus-Cheek looks to have finally broken into Chelsea’s starting XI — and the 23-year-old has not disappointed since getting there.

On top of the physicality he has brought to the team, Loftus-Cheek has also provided Sarri’s side with another goal threat.

The England international’s runs into the box are causing the Blues’ opponents a lot of problems, while his combination play with Eden Hazard and Callum Hudson-Odoi in attack has been exquisite at times.

That and his ability to drive with the ball has been massive for Chelsea in their last few fixtures.

Considering that, one can only wonder why Sarri has left it so late in the season to give the Chelsea academy graduate a proper chance in the first team.

TT Grade: B Abdoulaye Doucoure

While Loftus-Cheek is only starting to become an important player for Chelsea now, Doucoure has been a key figure in Watford’s engine room since coming into the fray at Vicarage Road.

One of the best box-to-box midfielders the Premier League has to offer, the 26-year-old brings so much to Javi Gracia’s side.

To go with all the less glamorous tasks he carries out in his own half, Doucoure is also capable of getting things done when it comes to attacking the opponent’s goal.

He has the intelligence to time his runs into the box to perfection and the technical skill to convert the chances that follow.

The Frenchman only signed a contract extension last August, but it would not be a surprise to see some big clubs target him in the summer.

TT Grade: B+ TT Verdict:

Loftus-Cheek can go to the very top. At 23, he still has so much time to improve.

Compared to Doucoure, physically and technically, he is just as good.

Next season, if he can retain a regular spot in Chelsea’s starting XI, then he could go on to become an even more influential midfielder than the Watford man.

Until then, though, Doucoure remains the superior player out of the two.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, Sheffield United are looking to make Kieran Dowell’s move to Bramall Lane a permanent one after his initial loan spell.

The Everton man has made just 16 appearances for the Blades, starting only eight of those, and with the Yorkshire club being promoted to the Premier League a move for the midfielder comes as a quite a surprise.

Championship player

The 21-year-old is by no means a bad player, but he has just 72 minutes of Premier League football under his belt up to this point.

He netted nine goals in the Championship last season during a spell with Nottingham Forest, but he has failed to stand out as one of the best in the division over the past two years.

Dowell is undoubtedly a good option to have in the second tier, but bringing him in as one of your first signings as a Premier League club shows a lack of ambition.

Need to improve

If there’s one area of Chris Wilder’s side that needs improving it is the attacking midfield role.

Despite being at Bramall Lane since January, Dowell hasn’t been a consistent starter, with Mark Duffy usually keeping him out of the starting XI.

With the youngster unable to stand out in the Championship, you have to wonder why Wilder wants him back at the Lane after their promotion to the top flight.

Duffy himself needs replacing as he hasn’t shown anything that suggests he is ready to make the step up to the Premier League, and the spot that he occupies is one of the most important roles in Wilder’s system.

If the Blades are to bring in a new number 10, why on earth would they want to sign the man who has proven he isn’t good enough to be the first choice ahead of what they’ve already got?

وتابع: “ستكون هناك مسحة ثانية للاعبين بعد عودتنا إلى مصر لكي نتأكد من سلامتهم”.

وأضاف: “علمت من بعض لاعبي المنتخب أن محمد صلاح يتواصل معهم لكي يطمئن ويشجعهم على المكسب، وهناك روح معنوية عالية جدًا بين اللاعبين”.

وأردف: “محمود تريزيجيه لاعب المنتخب ونادي أستون فيلا سيعود إلى القاهرة، وبعد ذلك سيسافر إلى إنجلترا”.

وأكمل: “كل غرف بعثة منتخب مصر فردية ولا توجد أي غرفة زوجية، ولا يوجد أي لاعب تواجد مع محمد النني في غرفته”.

وأتم: “النني وصلاح أجروا مسحات أثناء دخولهم إلى مصر أكثر من مرة، ولكن هذا نصيب”.

The blog have claimed via their Twitter account that Rangers closed their training ground last Tuesday to allow George Edmundson, a 21-year-old central defender, to be taken on an exclusive tour of the training ground by Andy Scoulding.

Edmundson currently plys his trade in League Two with Oldham Athletic, where he established himself as a regular at the heart of defence, making 45 appearances and scoring two goals in the process.

The report provoked a mixed response from supporters, with some claiming he fits the bill perfectly and others suggesting that the club went overboard by closing the training ground.
