Moussa Sissoko is insistent that Tottenham Hotspur can still finish in the top four this season, per The Daily Telegraph.

What’s the word?

Spurs have endured a horrific start to the campaign and are currently 11 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s team are joined by Liverpool, Leicester City and Chelsea in the top four but Sissoko remains positive about the chances of Mauricio Pochettino’s side climbing the table.

Indeed, Spurs have won just three times in the Premier League thus far this term and have not won away in the league since January.

Sissoko said: “Of course we are far, far behind the top four, but the season is long and we can still win a lot of games.

“It will not be easy but we know we have the qualities to do it.

“When we come back [after the international break] we will try to catch the teams in front of us and see where we are at the end of the season.”

Sissoko believes that the key to an upturn in results could be the club’s home form – they have already drawn twice and lost once in north London in 2019/20.

He added: “We have to make our home a fortress. Normally we have to take most of the points at home against every team, but we have a bit of a problem with that. It is a shame for us because the fans are pushing us along with their support, but at the end we don’t win.”

Misdiagnosis

Spurs need to improve their away form instead of focusing on winning at home.

They last won on the road in the league against Fulham in January. That’s the Fulham team that have since been relegated and begun the season anew in the Championship.

Thus far this season, Spurs have taken three points from six games on the road. They have a goal difference of minus five and would be in the bottom three if only away games counted. Burnley have an identical record of three draws and three defeats, while only Norwich City, with five losses, have worse.

Compare that with the current top four. Liverpool are unbeaten and have 16 points away from home, Chelsea have 15, Manchester City 12 and Leicester 10.

It is no surprise that the top four overall is also the top four on the road.

But if Spurs are to heed Sissoko’s words and climb the league, they need to start turning up on their travels and taking the points back to London as a matter of urgency.

Their home form, by comparison, has seen them take 11 points, only one fewer than Pep Guardiola’s side, who have the third-best home record in the league.

Sissoko, then, has managed to miss the point by a convincingly wide margin.

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react following a report by The Evening Standard, which states that Dougie Freedman is interested in the vacant managerial position at Hearts.

Freedman – who is currently the Sporting Director at Selhurst Park – turned down the same opportunity back in 2017 upon agreeing to his current position, although the Scotsman is now believed to be interested in succeeding Craig Levein.

The former Palace striker – who scored 55 times for the south Londoners – has been pretty hit and miss in the role of Sporting Director in SE25.

Freedman has overseen some impressive deals, such as Vicente Guaita and Gary Cahill on free transfers, although he also signed the likes of Alexander Sorloth, who cost £9m and has scored just once in 20 games for the club.

While you may think it would be a blow for Palace to lose their Sporting Director just before the January window, it seems as if some supporters on Twitter don’t seem too upset about the possibility of Freedman departing.

What’s the word, then?

Even though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s troops are currently set with their forward line, the Red Devils’ coach is looking to add more experience and pedigree to his attack.

Both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have been decent in the current campaign and the emergence of Mason Greenwood is a pleasant surprise, as ESPN have explained, but a proven goal-scorer is needed to get the team back on track.

Dzeko, who’s 33 years of age by this point, is exactly what they need and despite Ed Woodward initially not being on board with signing players in their late 30s, Solskjaer wants someone of his profile to join.

But looking at the situation from Roma’s point of view, Dzeko is definitely one of the Gladiators they simply can’t afford to lose.

Too big of a price to pay

Simply put, and even though he is already 33, Dzeko is far too important a piece of the jigsaw at Roma.

And yes, they have scored 20 goals in 12 Serie A games but the Bosnian diamond is their top scorer with five goals to his name. At first, that might not sound like a lot but considering only Aleksandar Kolarov with four and Nicolo Zaniolo with three have more than two goals to their name in the ongoing campaign, the picture becomes clearer immediately.

Apart from Dzeko, there is only Nikola Kalinic at the club who is a natural centre-forward, but the Croat is also 31 and has only managed to muster three appearances in Serie A this season.

If the 33-year-old was to leave for Manchester United, there would simply be no one at the club to take over the mantle and a huge piece of their jigsaw would suddenly be taken away.

Of course, from the Red Devils’ point of view, it does look like a great deal.

Their forward line looks rejuvenated with Martial and Rashford but adding in a bit of experience and proven goalscoring ability really could help them improve even further.

After all, Dzeko has spent some time in the Premier League while he was donning Manchester City’s colours and back then, managing to score 72 goals and assist a further 39.

For that reason, it’s fairly safe to assume he’d be able to transfer his lethality from the Serie A back to England and to Solskjaer’s troops and the Norwegian coach could potentially deploy him at the centre of his attacking line, flanked by two pacy wingers.

To further cement his reputation as one of the best in the business, Miroslav Blazevic, former Switzerland, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina coach, once dubbed Dzeko as “better than Ibrahimovic” and the Bosnian is truly showing that despite age slowly catching up with him, he is still very much an important part of the squad.

His departure, without too much exaggeration, would be a disaster for Roma but quite a scoop for Manchester United.

وعما إذا كان يشعر بثقة من اللاعبين داخل غرفة خلع الملابس، أوضح: “أشعر بدعم كبير، بالفعل الأمور مُعقدة بعض الشيء، هُناك لاعبون لا يلعبون بنفس القدر وأنا أحاول دائمًا توضيح الأمور للجميع”.

وبسؤاله “إذا لم تستمر فهل ستصاب بخيبة أمل؟”، أجاب: “لن أفكر في ما يُمكن أّنّ يحدث، سيكون هُناك اجتماع آخر بعد نهاية الموسم وسأجيب عن هذا السؤال”.

تحدث محمد شريف، مهاجم الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بالنادي الأهلي، عن صعوبة مواجهة صن داونز بطل جنوب إفريقيا في إياب ربع نهائي دوري أبطال إفريقيا، مشيرا إلى أن الفريق يسعى إلى التأهل إلى الدور نصف النهائي.

وواصل: “الفترة الماضية شارك الأهلي في كأس العالم للأندية، ثم منافسات الدوري، وهناك مباراة على كأس السوبر الإفريقي، والآن لا حديث يعلو فوق مباراة صن داونز بطل جنوب إفريقيا التي يسعى خلالها الأهلي إلى حسم تأهله إلى الدور نصف النهائي في دوري الأبطال”.

وشدد شريف، على أن صن داونز لا يحتاج إلى الحديث عنه، فتاريخه في السنوات الأخيرة يؤكد أنه فريق يستحق الاحترام، وبصفة عامة عندما يصل فريق إلى دور ربع النهائي في بطولة بحجم دوري أبطال إفريقيا، فمن المؤكد أنه فريق مميز ويمتلك المقومات والعناصر الجيدة.

وأشار مهاجم الأهلي، إلى أن الفريق دائما ما يكون في تحدٍ جديد في كل مباراة يشارك بها، وكل بطولة يكون متواجدا فيها، والفوز دائما ما يكون الهدف الأول الذي يسعى إليه الفريق على مدار الأجيال المتعاقبة على النادي والتي ارتدت قميص الأهلي.

وقال شريف، إنه يتطلع بشكل شخصي لكتابة تاريخ مع الأهلي من خلال الفوز بالألقاب والبطولات، وهذه الرغبة هي حلم مشترك لجميع اللاعبين المتواجدين مع الفريق.

وأضاف: “ثقة الجهاز الفني والجماهير بكل تأكيد دافع قوي بالنسبة لي؛ لبذل مجهود إضافي من  أجل إسعاد الجماهير وتنفيذ تعليمات الجهاز في المباريات التي أشارك فيها”.

وأكد: “هدفنا واحد، نسعى إلى الوصول إليه، ورغبتنا مشتركة في الوصول بالأهلي دائما إلى الفوز والتواجد على منصات التتويج”.

واختتم محمد شريف تصريحاته بالتأكيد على أنه يسعى بكل قوة من أجل إسعاد جماهير الأهلي، التي تعد السند الحقيقي والداعم القوي للفريق.

A number of Newcastle United fans have praised Martin Dubravka for his performance in Monday’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

The Magpies entered the game with Villa off the back of successive wins over West Ham United and Bournemouth.

However, Steve Bruce’s side could not pick up a positive result at Villa Park, with the home side collecting all three points courtesy of a 2-0 win.

A number of Newcastle players were criticised on social media after the match, but it would be fair to say that Dubravka’s performance made a positive impression on the fans.

Indeed, in response to an interview from the goalkeeper after the match, many of the supporters were keen to pay tribute to the 30-year-old.

The general consensus seems to be that the scoreline would have been much worse had Dubravka not put in a solid performance for the Magpies between the sticks.
