Manchester City are back in Premier League action having secured their trip to the knockout stages of the Champions League following a 1-1 draw against Shakhtar in midweek.

But while Pep Guardiola’s men didn’t really have the best of nights in Europe – with a slightly rotated squad – their chase for the third English crown is all but easy back home, and Newcastle are someone they simply cannot underestimate.

With Liverpool slowly but surely getting out of their sights and with Leicester to topple in the table as well, the Citizens will have to treat every game like a final if they’re going to pull through.

So with that in mind, here is the XI Pep Guardiola could start on Saturday lunchtime:

Most of the changes that could occur from the game against Shakhtar will likely take place in City’s defence. Ederson is very much expected to start the game between the sticks but his back four could see some tweaks.

Benjamin Mendy should return at left-back, replacing Angelino who was given a nod in Europe, and the same can be said for Otamendi, who might be making way for John Stones’ return to action.

In the middle of the park, Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri basically pick themselves and Gundogan’s inclusion is also warranted.

After all, it was the German who netted City’s only strike in midweek and even though he was on the bench against Chelsea in the previous match, Guardiola might reward him with another start.

Up front, Sergi Aguero is very much going to be missed as the Argentine is still recovering from the injury he sustained against the Blues, and the same can be said for Leroy Sane, who’s yet to return to fitness following a long-term knee setback.

For that reason, the trio of Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Bernardo Silva are likely to make an appearance.

Even though Mahrez did a good job against Chelsea, Silva’s return from suspension should also see him return to the gala XI as well.

When everything is said and done, that should make for only two changes in the lineup overall.

Olympique Lyon’s season has been a true rollercoaster ride.

So far, they’ve had mixed results over in Ligue 1 and as a direct result of that and their lack of any real consistency, they are currently sitting in midtable and are struggling to keep up with some of the best teams in the French top-flight.

But not all is as bleak as it may sound at first.

Memphis Depay has very much been their shining light throughout the 2019/20 campaign and remains to be almost the only thing keeping them afloat.

The 25-year-old forward has so far scored a total of 11 goals in 15 games, tallying one assist on the side in the process as well. Without his contribution, the team would have likely dropped even further down the standings.

But with such brilliant performances comes the attention of the outside world and Depay was heavily linked with an exit back to the Premier League, namely to Liverpool.

Calciomercato even stated that the Reds could offer around €50m (£42m) to land their target.

And while it would be easy for him to actually leave the struggling Lyon behind, it’s also been revealed that the club are willing to offer him a contract extension.

Lyon’s president confirmed it publicly when speaking to BeIN Sports (quoted by Daily Mail):

“We will make him a contract extension offer because he is an exceptional player. He will be the one who will ultimately decide. He is a sweet boy, an interesting man”

By all means, this is something he should definitely consider.

At Liverpool, he would likely be just another face in the crowd or a talented player stuck in the pipeline, waiting for the crumbs left behind by world-class players like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, but at Lyon, he could become a true star, a legend even.

He’s already among their best players and if he can continue this trend moving forward, only the sky could be the limit.

Of course, if Lyon keep underperforming, he can always seek the exit door in the future but for now, staying could actually benefit him even more.

In France, he’s the main man and he’s also bound to remain that for the time being.

Not many would expect him to sign an extension amid interest from such big clubs but wouldn’t that be a true statement to the world?

وعن الحكم الصادر ضد إمام عاشور من غزل المحلة بسبب عدم حصولهم على 500 ألف جنيه، أوضح: “اتحاد الكرة لم يصل له أي شئ بشأن هذا الأمر”.

وأكمل: “الاتحاد ليس له علاقة بالمعاملات المالية بين الأندية واللاعبين، ليس لنا علاقة بأزمة إمام عاشور مع ناديه السابق”.

واستطرد: “سيتم إنشاء رابطة الأندية بعد تحديد الهابطين الموسم المقبل”.

وواصل: “ظروف إعداد منتخب مصر الأول والأولمبي صعبة في ظل فيروس كورونا”.

وأتم: “غدًا ستتم إعادة النظر تجاه عقوبة حلمي طولان المدير الفني لإنبي، ليس لدينا ما يمنع مراجعة قرارات لجنة المسابقات”.

وكانت لجنة المسابقات بالاتحاد المصري لكرة القدم، قررت توقيع عقوبة ضد حلمي طولان بالإيقاف، مباراتين، وتغريمه 20 ألف جنيه، للسلوك غير الرياضي خلال مباراة الزمالك في الدوري، وقامت إدارة الفريق البترولي بتقديم تظلم ضد العقوبة.

ميندي انضم إلى تشيلسي، مطلع موسم 2020/2021، قادمًا من فريق رين الفرنسي مقابل 24 مليون يورو.

يُذكر أنّ ميندي، في مسابقة دوري الأبطال هذا الموسم، خاض 11 مباراة، وتلقت شباكه ثلاثة أهداف، ونجح في الخروج بشباكٍ نظيفة في ثماني مُباريات.

Dennis Praet made his 11th Premier League appearance of the season in Leicester City’s 4-1 win at Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

It was actually the first time that the midfielder had started in the league since October 5 against Liverpool, with Brendan Rodgers playing a settled team in recent weeks.

According to WhoScored, Praet boosted an 87% pass success rate against Villa, whilst he also completed two dribbles during his 76 minutes on the field.

And a number of the Leicester fans were keen to hail the 25-year-old.

Praet also provided the assist for Jamie Vardy to make it 4-1 in the latter stages of the contest, and some of the supporters praised the midfielder for his telling contribution.

Others were just keen to simply pay tribute to Praet in general for his qualities as a footballer, with the Foxes starting to see the best of the Belgium international.

Leicester have now won their last seven in the Premier League and eight in all competitions during a spectacular run of form.

The Foxes are six points clear of third-placed Manchester City in the Premier League table, although they are still eight behind leaders Liverpool.

Meanwhile, a number of the club’s fans have recently paid tribute to one player who is now taking his chance under Rodgers.

A number of Manchester City fans gave their approval to a rumoured new away shirt for next season which was leaked online.

Footy Headlines posted images of the proposed away kit for 2020/21 from Puma, with the design also shared on Twitter via @City_Xtra.

As per Footy Headlines [via Manchester Evening News], the shirt is predominantly navy blue and features architectural designs on the torso which are apparently a nod to the Castlefield area of the city of Manchester. The club crest and sponsors’ logos appear to be in a shade of pink.

The latest kit leak for the Premier League champions comes just a few short weeks after a rumoured home shirt for 2020/21 was published by Footy Headlines, who also shared images of a leaked third kit for next season which subsequently drew a negative reaction from many supporters.

Manchester City switched their kit designer to Puma from Nike last year and have a 10-year partnership with the German brand which is set to run until 2029 (as per Manchester Evening News).

These City fans on Twitter were impressed with the leaked away shirt, with one supporter believing it is the “best of the lot”:

O vice-líder do primeiro turno de 2023 foi o Grêmio, com 34 pontos, 13 a menos do que o Botafgo. Neste ano, o segundo colocado é o Flamengo, com 37 pontos, três de diferença em relação ao rival do Rio de Janeiro e com uma partida a menos. Vale lembrar também que, caso o Rubro-Negro vença o jogo atrasado contra o Internacional por dois ou mais gols de diferença, o título simbólico da primeira metade do campeonato fica na Gávea.

The coronavirus pandemic has created chaos for Glasgow Rangers and many other clubs in Scottish football. 

For the first time since World War II, the SPFL announced that the top four leagues have been cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. As a result, Glasgow rivals Celtic were crowned champions and Hearts were subsequently relegated from the Scottish Premiership.

The ‘Gers were never going to let this go without a fight and the Ibrox outfit accused the governing body of corruption and demanded an independent inquiry into the authority, but to no avail.

The SPFL has now revealed that James Anderson will donate more than £3m to a trust to give support to clubs and their communities during the economic uncertainty. The Edinburgh-based philanthropist has confirmed he will provide further funding to Scottish clubs in the years to come (BBC).

However, while the Bundesliga has made a triumphant return, and the Premier League and La Liga are all gearing up for a restart, there is no sign of Scottish football resuming any time soon.

Unsurprisingly, it seems that loads of RFC fans are unhappy with the news as they took to social media to vent their frustrations at the “utter embarrassment”. One fan tweeted that the grant is “pathetic” while another called the SPFL are “corrupt” in reference to the recent accusations.
