Daniel Levy is still looking for his next Tottenham Hotspur boss five weeks on from the surprise sacking of Jose Mourinho, and one worrying name has emerged in the running.

Last week, journalist Raffaele Auriemma dropped a claim on ex-Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri being keen on a return to the Premier League.

Speaking on Italian TV show Si Gonfia La Rete (via Area Napoli), the reporter suggested that the 62-year-old wants a four-year contract and a say in the transfer market, with his agent recently in England.

It’s also thought that Sarri “would like [to join] one between Arsenal and Tottenham.”

In recent weeks, the fanbase has protested against the Lilywhites chairman as well as the club’s ownership group ENIC over the way they have run the club in recent years.

Initially, this was kickstarted by the shocking plans to break away from the Premier League and form a Super League but, in reality, this merely was the final straw from years of underachievement and underspending.

It means that Levy and the Spurs hierarchy must get this appointment spot on or risk facing further backlash – something which may come if he opts to go through with appointing Sarri.

Former Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp questioned whether the 62-year-old would be right and how it would sit with fans just last month. He said on Sky Sports (via Goal): “Maurizio Sarri will not excite the Spurs fans one bit, not one bit.”

Indeed, this does seem to go against other reports that suggest Levy is eyeing up an ‘attack-minded’ head coach who is focused on the development of young players and has a modern outlook on football.

The Italian just did not do this at Stamford Bridge. You only have to look at the Callum Hudson-Odoi saga to see that.

Furthermore, Sarri is hardly a motivating boss, and given Mourinho was said to have lost the dressing room, it would seem strange to appoint someone to whom the exact same has happened.

For example, a print edition of Spanish newspaper AS (via Football Italia) claimed that the 62-year-old had lost the support of Chelsea’s ‘big names’ for ‘months’ and his relationship with some was ‘irreconcilable’ right before his sacking.

It was even suggested by third-choice goalkeeper Rob Green – who once confronted the manager in front of the whole team – that he has “no plan B” and was a “transactional kind of manager.”

Sarri has also been slammed as “very stubborn,” further hinting towards Sarri merely being another Mourinho – and that won’t please the Tottenham fanbase, who right now are baying for blood.

Many were never for the appointment of a former Chelsea man and that stuck to him throughout his reign, no matter what he did.

The same would likely happen with Sarri, so Levy and co must steer clear of the ageing Italian, as otherwise he risks further fury from the people who matter most.

وأعلن المدير الفني يورجن كلوب التشكيل الأساسي لفريق ليفربول، حيث يتواجد محمد صلاح على دكة البدلاء.

وكان محمد صلاح قد تعرض لإصابة في مباراة السبت الماضي أمام برايتون، وكانت هناك شكوك حول مشاركته الليلة.

وقال كلوب في تصريحات نشرتها شبكة “ليفربول إيكو” الإنجليزية: “لقد فعلها! بالأمس كانت لدينا جلسة تدريب واحدة فقط، كل شيء كان على ما يرام”.

There is almost an expectation that Bruno Lage will become Nuno Espirito Santo’s successor but Get Italian Football News’ Editor in Chief, Conor Clancy believes that Paulo Fonseca could be a great fit for them.

“He’s proven how he can work from his time at Shakhtar as they always have a lot of Brazilian players and he won things there. I’d presume that Portuguese is the language of the dressing room or at least some corners of it so I do think that Wolves seems like quite a nice fit for Fonseca.”

After being granted a work permit to move over to England take charge at Molineux, Lage appears to not be far away from being appointed as the club’s next manager, however, Fonseca could be someone that remains on their radar.

Fonseca has been linked with several jobs since leaving his role at Roma, including the vacant roles at both Everton and Celtic which would provide two totally different tasks for him.

It has been suggested recently that Andrea Pirlo is on Everton’s shortlist to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park this summer, and if the 42-year-old were to get the job, he could be the man to unlock Andre Gomes in this Toffees side.

According to Calciomercato, Pirlo is one of the names being considered to step up as Ancelotti’s replacement after the 61-year-old returned to Real Madrid this week, with the former looking likely to make a swift return to management after being sacked by Juventus recently.

During his playing days, Pirlo was renowned as an incredible passer of the ball who was extremely composed in possession and could dictate games with apparent ease.

He favoured a possession style of play during his time with Juventus, as only Sassuolo averaged more possession per game than the Old Lady in Serie A last season, which suggests that he would deploy a similar tactic with the Toffees.

This could lead to Gomes having a resurgence of form, with the former Barcelona midfielder having struggled for consistent form during his time at Goodison Park, with his 6.46 average rating from WhoScored last season ranking him as the 18th-best performer in the Toffees’ squad.

However, his passing success rate of 85.3% was the fourth-best of any Everton player with at least 10 appearances in the Premier League last season, which emphasises that he is one of their more talented players on the ball.

Gomes seems to lack the energy to push forward from midfield and contribute in attack, so if he were redeployed by the 42-year-old in ‘the Pirlo role’ as a deep-lying playmaker, he could then become a lot more effective in this Everton side.

Whilst the horrific ankle injury the Portuguese midfielder suffered in 2019 has largely scuppered his form, he has shown glimpses of his ability, with former Toffees goalkeeper Nigel Martyn full of praise for his performance against Leeds last season, saying: “He’s a very composed footballer, looks very good on the ball, intelligent and knows which space to run into. His passing’s very good, his tackling’s very good – he’s a great all-round footballer.”

Ancelotti was also complimentary of the midfielder’s performance that night, saying: “In my opinion, the best player on the pitch was André Gomes…technically, physically, tactically. This is the real André Gomes, the one we need.”

Therefore, with Pirlo’s guidance, the £18m-rated Gomes could start producing these performances on a much more regular basis for Everton, which could see him re-establish himself as a key player at Goodison Park next season if the 42-year-old gets the manager’s job.

OpenerDinesh Kartik (7) was caught behind by Ali Akbar off Devendra Singh off thefirst ball of the fifth over. His partner Prasanth Peter (7) hung aroundtill the 12th over when he was bowled by Vivek Yadav. This brought SrinivasRao and Anoop Pai together. They took their time to settle down and thenset about rebuilding the innings.
