O Cruzeiro anunciou por meio de uma nota em seu site oficial, na tarde desta terça-feira, que não vê problema em pagar os R$ 10 milhões referentes à multa do atacante Fred com o seu ex-clube, o Atlético-MG.

Fred, de 34 anos, assinou contrato de três anos com o Cruzeiro e voltará a defender o clube depois de mais de 12 anos.

O Galo rescindiu o contrato com o atacante mas condicionou a saída do jogador, que não poderia atuar pelo Cruzeiro, a não ser que pagasse uma multa de R$ 10 milhões. Na ocasião, clube, atleta e representantes aceitaram o acordo, que foi assinado. Quando o Cruzeiro soube da liberação de Fred, fez uma proposta e acertou com o camisa 9, evitando a ida do atacante ao Catar. O centroavante chegou a notificar o clube celeste sobre a existência da multa milionária.

O departamento jurídico cruzeirense segue analisando a validade da cobrança. Veja abaixo o posicionamento na íntegra do time mineiro:

“O departamento jurídico do Cruzeiro está analisando a cláusula contratual que obriga o atacante Fred a pagar uma indenização de R$ 10 milhões ao seu ex-clube em caso de acerto com o Cruzeiro. A diretoria do Clube aguarda o parecer do departamento para assim definir como irá proceder.

Caso o parecer seja favorável ao pagamento, o Cruzeiro não vê problema para fazer o pagamento dos R$ 10 milhões, pois conta com um grupo de empresários cruzeirenses que está auxiliando o Clube nesta operação e irá fazer a quitação integral do valor.”

On top of the arrival of Chris Wood from Burnley, it seems as if the St. James’ Park faithful are still pushing for another striker to come through the door.

As per journalist Juanma Castano (via El Partidazo de COPE), the Magpies, as well as both Tottenham Hotspur and FC Barcelona, have now put an offer on the table for Morata.

Atletico Madrid ‘could accept’ a loan from them, and his future is set to be decided very soon.

The Verdict: Avoid

While other options like Nketiah are available, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium should avoid trying to bring in Morata, even on loan.

Yes, there are times when he has shown his credentials, for example at Euro 2020, where he helped guide Spain through to the knockout stages and his manager Luis Enrique even hailed him as ‘amazing’.

However, he is simply not consistent enough, as his current loan spell at Juventus shows, where he has only managed a mere five goals in the Serie A so far this season.

Morata has also big loss on the fee that they originally paid for him.

It would simply be too much of a risk, and there are other options out there to explore with the few days left remaining in the winter transfer window.

Raza however ensured he stayed right till the end with 78 to finish the job.The match had the makings of a high-scorer when the Bears duo of Taufeeq Umer and Abid Ali added a massive 147 for Baluchistan’s second wicket. Taufeeq hit five fours in his 74 but Abid was the more aggressive of the pair, hitting 11 fours in his 94. The Dolphins hit back to take three wickets for 11 runs, with Danish Kaneria picking up two of those. The lower order then rallied around Rameez Alam, who scored a quick 52 off 35 balls to take the score past 300. Anwar Ali took three wickets but was hammered for 72 off his ten overs.The Dolphins were given a boost by their openers, Shahzaib Hasan and Khurram Manzoor, who added 110 in just under 19 overs. Much like in the first innings, a century stand was followed by a wicket burst as the Dolphins lost three wickets for five runs. Sarfraz and Raza came together in the 26th over and added 71 to put them back on track. Lal Kumar eased the pressure off Raza with a breezy 27 off 14 balls after Sarfraz departed. But Dolphins were left to play catch-up in the final stages and when the last over began, they needed more than a run a ball. Raza levelled the scores off the penultimate ball and sealed the win with a boundary.

According to Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic, Ajax were ‘priced out of a potential deal’ by Tottenham for Steven Bergwijn as Antonio Conte considers him ‘an important member of his squad’.

The Lowdown: Bergwijn’s transfer saga

The Dutch winger was at the centre of a fluctuating transfer saga during the January window. One moment he was seemingly off from N17, the next Conte wanted him to stay.

On 9 January, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claimed that Tottenham had ‘decided to sell’ the 24-year-old amid interest from a number of clubs.

Two days later, the Evening Standard reported that Spurs had rejected an opening £15m bid from Ajax. It was said that Daniel Levy was holding out on the deal as he was looking to recoup as much of the £27m that they paid for the player in 2020 as they could.

However, Bergwijn seemingly threw his Spurs future into the air as he fired in two stoppage-time goals in 80 seconds to snatch Conte’s side three points in a thrilling 3-2 win over Leicester City two weeks ago.

The Latest: Ajax ‘priced out’ of Bergwijn deal

According to Eccleshare on Twitter, the Dutch champions were priced out of a possible deal for Bergwijn, a player who Conte feels is an integral member of the Tottenham squad.

He outlined: “It’s been a busy day for #THFC departures, but Steven Bergwijn is staying put. Ajax priced out of a potential deal for someone Antonio Conte considers an important member of his squad.”

Eccleshare also revealed for The Athletic that Spurs were not actively looking to offload the attacker, but Ajax’s interest had tested their resolve. This ultimately ended as the Dutch giants could not afford to meet Tottenham’s asking price.

The Verdict: Good choice

Bergwijn has not enjoyed an easy period since he arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but in recent weeks, it seems that the Netherlands international’s fortunes may have changed.

With the 24-year-old having secured Spurs that dramatic win against Leicester and with Alasdair Gold hailing him as a ‘rare bright spot’ in the recent defeat at Chelsea, this begged the question as to whether Conte and Fabio Paratici were silly to consider allowing the player to leave.

Considering the failed pursuit for now-Barcelona winger Adama Traore, Tottenham have made the right call to keep hold of the Dutchman, whose ‘quality’ has been hailed by Conte himself.

Faced with a potentially tricky session, the visitors managed to reach 61 for 2 at the close.Openers Tom Westley and Jaik Mickleburgh were the men out, leaving Ravi Bopara and Matt Walker to resume in the morning. Nottinghamshire, two points behind Yorkshire and with two games in hand, were able to call upon the services of Ryan Sidebottom with the left-arm seamer not picked for England, but it was one-cap wonder Darren Pattinson who struck first.Westley had taken advantage of a short boundary on the Bridgford Road side of Trent Bridge to clip a six off his legs in Pattinson’s fourth over, but the seamer responded in the next over with a good length delivery resulting in a thin edge to Read.Sidebottom’s England colleague Bopara had a bit of luck to get off the mark with a thick edge to the third-man boundary but Mickleburgh then departed lbw to former Essex all-rounder Andre Adams.
