Chelsea contact £198,000-per-week Bayern Munich player who's keen to leave

Chelsea are making moves for their desired summer transfer targets, with BlueCo reaching out to yet another player who’s keen to leave Bayern Munich.

Chelsea hold talks with Dean Huijsen and Jorrel Hato's agents this week

As per reliable Stamford Bridge journalist Simon Phillips, both Ajax starlet Jorrel Hato and Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen have been subject to approaches from Chelsea in the last few days.

As per the reporter’s sources, writing via his Substack, Chelsea held talks with Hato and Huijsen’s representatives, just before their Europa Conference League loss to Legia Warsaw in west London, with Enzo Maresca on the hunt for new defenders this summer.

Trevoh Chalobah is likely to leave Chelsea again this summer, despite being recalled from his loan at Crystal Palace in January, while Wesley Fofana has been sidelined through yet another long-term injury.

Ajax mainstay Hato is able to provide cover at both centre-half and left-back, so the Netherlands international is an astute option, while Huijsen’s £50 million release clause has piqued interest from Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea after his excellent campaign at Bournemouth (David Ornstein).

The competition for both men’s signatures will be fierce, though, so Maresca’s side will have earmarked a number of defensive targets ahead of the 2025/2026 season.

Chelsea must get this summer’s transfer window right, and Maresca also has a chance to bring players in early ahead of their Club World Cup campaign, following confirmation from the Premier League that there will be an additional transfer window open from June 1st to June 10th.

Up to £100 million in prize money will be on the line during this year’s CWC, so Chelsea will be keen to reinforce areas of the squad in time to compete.

Chelsea contact Kim min-Jae with defender keen to leave Bayern Munich

According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, it is now believed £198,000-per-week Bayern defender Kim min-Jae is a target for Maresca’s side.

The South Korean, with nearly 70 international caps, is apparently “very open” to departing the Allianz Arena this summer, despite being trusted by Vincent Kompany as a consistent starter.

Chelsea have reached out to min-Jae’s camp for discussions, as per Aouna, but Eddie Howe’s Newcastle have done the same, as both sides look to reinforce their backlines.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to England for years, with Tottenham registering an interest in min-Jae during Antonio Conte’s tenure in charge.

Back in 2020, during José Mourinho’s time at Spurs, it was also reported that Son Heung-min was pushing the club to sign min-Jae – so he’s clearly highly-rated by his peers behind-the-scenes.

Ravindra, and an unlikely Wellington reunion in Chennai

Thrown into a pulsing bowl of noise at Chepauk on Friday, his IPL debut was one to remember

Deivarayan Muthu25-Mar-2024Chepauk has a Westpac Stadium vibe to it. Yellow stands. Yellow jerseys. World-class Wellington batters. In IPL 2023, a Wellington boy thrilled the Chepauk crowd. In a bizarre three-day rain-hit final that season, Devon Conway produced a Player-of-the-Match performance, against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. On Tuesday, Chennai Super Kings will face Titans in a rematch of the final, at Chepauk, but Conway is back in Wellington, recovering from thumb surgery. He has been sidelined until May.No Conway? No problem for CSK. Because another Wellington boy has slotted directly into the top order and enjoyed a sparkling debut, against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Thirty-seven runs off 15 balls at an eye-watering strike-rate of 246.66. It’s his highest in 57 T20s. It’s also the highest strike rate by a debutant across 17 seasons of the IPL (for a minimum of 30 runs scored).Related

When Rachin Ravindra was snapped up by CSK at the auction last December for INR 1.8 crore, he wasn’t a certainty in their XI though he was the breakout star of the ODI World Cup held in India that year. But when he was thrown into Chepauk, which was a pulsing bowl of noise on Friday, Ravindra was at home away from home.IPL debuts can often be unnerving – some of the biggest international names have had harsh initiations into the IPL – but Ravindra’s was nerveless. After taking the catches of both Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli in the hotspots at the boundary, he tore up the powerplay with the bat, in CSK’s chase of 174. With his hairstyle and athleticism, you could easily mistake him for another Ravindra from CSK – Jadeja.Rachin Ravindra with his domestic team-mates and former coach Sriram Krishnamurthy in Wellington•Sriram KrishnamurthyRavindra’s former Wellington and New Zealand A coach, Sriram Krishnamurthy, was part of a packed crowd at Chepauk. Sriram, who now works at the Super Kings Academy, CSK’s grassroots programme, isn’t a Chepauk regular for the CSK games, but on Friday he was right there for Ravindra’s IPL debut.”It was surreal for sure,” Sriram tells ESPNcricinfo. “We started working together in Wellington in 2015 and we set small goals. But our reunion at Chepauk was simply surreal because it was never ever part of the plan. Even until last year we would have never entertained the thought of meeting in Chennai.”In the lead-up to Ravindra’s first IPL stint, many on the outside wondered whether he had the game and gears to succeed in T20 cricket. After all, he came into the IPL with a modest T20 record: 673 runs in 48 innings at an average of 16.41 and strike rate of 126.26. On the opening night of IPL 2024, he struck at nearly 250. Sriram isn’t surprised one bit, though.”He’s always had the skill and the shots,” Sriram says. “What is aiding him to bring runs to his name is his mental switch. Right from when he was 14-15, he could cut, pull, drive, sweep, he could play the lofted drive. When you’re playing on some flat wickets, even against good bowlers the margin for error is so small; so he’s able to play all these shots. Which is what he was able do against Australia at the Westpac Stadium and then against RCB at Chepauk, which wasn’t the usual Chennai wicket.”I feel it’s a mental switch: he understands that in a T20 game if he can think about the batting in a way that he can play all the shots, based on his reaction to the ball…Whereas when he goes back to New Zealand, where he’s going to play at least 50% of cricket, he needs to be more careful. In the 50-over games against Bangladesh at home during the day games, the ball was seaming and holding in the pitch, he needs to be more selective with his shots there.”In the IPL season-opener, Ravindra hooked Alzarri Joseph for six, whipped Mohammed Siraj for four, but it was his rasping back-foot pull off a not-so-short ball from Karn Sharma that stood out. Ravindra picked the length early and made a blameless hard-length delivery look like a rank long-hop.”He always looks good when he plays the square-drive between cover and point, but that didn’t come for him in that opening game,” Sriram says. “We will see more of that as the tournament goes on. When you’re quick on our feet and use the depth of the crease…that’s the difference between punching it back to the bowler or hitting it to the boundary. He was able to cash in, but you still need to put them [bad balls] away.”Rachin Ravindra with CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan and his former Wellington coach Sriram Krishnamurthy (far right) who now works with the CSK academy in Chennai•Chennai Super KingsRavindra has had a habit of making striking first impressions. In his first game for Wellington Under-19s, Ravindra, 15 at the time, scored a century. On the opening day of the 2023 ODI World Cup, he cracked an unbeaten 123 off 96 balls against England in Ahmedabad. Then came the first-day first act at Chepauk.”Making that first impact is a quality of good players-in-the-making,” Sriram says. “Let’s go back to 2021, when he made his Test debut for Black Caps in Kanpur, he helped save that game. Then in the World Cup first match against England, in a different role. There was a Test comeback against South Africa. Now this CSK debut. He has always taken his opportunities and that’s something that resonated when I first met him. That also tells you about the person he is.”The day after Ravindra’s IPL debut, Sriram got together with him once again, at the Super Kings academy, and introduced him to the kids there. “We have met almost every alternate day in Chennai since the first two games are in Chennai,” Sriram says. “It meant so much to the kids. For him to walk into the indoor facility and see the kids get as excited as they did… that selfie picture. We had a tough time to control those boys from jumping around him and falling on him (laughs).”When Anirudh Immanuel, a messy-haired mystery spinner from the USA who is with CSK as a net bowler, walked out to train on the eve of the IPL opener, he was mistaken for Ravindra. One game in, Ravindra is a more recognisable face and could well become the “flavour of the season” in Chennai.

IPL 2022 auction trends: Core strength, fast-bowling muscle, and unexpected bargains

Every mega IPL auction reveals a bit more about how franchises plan when building a team. It was no different this time

Nagraj Gollapudi and Gaurav Sundararaman14-Feb-20225:30

Best and worst buys? Biggest surprise? Missed opportunity?

Got wheels and can bat? We’ll pay you a million dollars
“Fast bowlers were definitely the commodity of the auction,” Akash Ambani, Mumbai Indians’ owner, said. He decided to pay more than USD 1 million to secure Jofra Archer, who is not even going to play this season. This year there were 13 fast bowlers, including fast-bowling allrounders, who were million-dollar buys. Five of those were Indians. In 2018 (when the dollar exchange rate was INR 64), seven players in that category were paid at least a million dollars of which there was just one Indian player. The best fast bowlers have always been among the top buys in IPL auctions. However, during this auction the franchises were also on the lookout for fast bowlers who are handy batters too. Deepak Chahar, who has hit a couple of stand-out half-centuries for India in the last six months, entered the auction tipped to be one of the most expensive buys. That prediction came true as he finished as the most expensive Indian bowler at INR 14 crore.India bowling allrounder Shardul Thakur, another Chennai Super Kings product, missed out on returning to his original franchise after Delhi Capitals snapped him for INR 10.75 crore, the same amount paid by Royal Challengers Bangalore to get back Harshal Patel, the 2021 IPL’s highest wicket-taker who is also a handy bat. Former West Indies captain Jason Holder, who has been in scintillating form recently, was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 8.75 crore. Another West Indies allrounder, Romario Shepherd, who has never played the IPL but can bowl good pace and smack the ball hard, was picked by Holder’s former franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 7.75 crore. But it is not mandatory that the fast men need to bat. The franchises also placed big money on bowlers who either have extreme pace – Lockie Ferguson (Gujarat Titans, INR 10 crore), Mark Wood (INR 7.5 crore, Super Giants) – as well those with good pace and bowling smarts, including Prasidh Krishna (INR 10 crore, Rajasthan Royals), Avesh Khan (INR 10 crores, Super Giants) and Josh Hazelwood (INR 7.75 crore, Royal Challengers). As Anil Kumble, the Punjab Kings director of cricket, told ESPNcricinfo, “for once this was a bowler’s auction”.Chennai Super Kings bought back Deepak Chahar for INR 14 crore•BCCITeams focus on core strength
Successful franchises will agree that auctions are disruptive. Because after investing big money in players who are then looked after well and are assigned key roles, teams are forced back to the drawing board for a mega auction. However, at least four of the eight old franchises focused on retaining the core they had created in 2018 as part of their auction strategy this time. Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Capitals and Sunrisers decided that continuity was what would get them short- and long-term success.Little surprise that the franchise to sign the largest number of players who were part of their squad last year were defending champions Super Kings, with seven players. This bunch included Deepak, Ambati Rayudu and Robin Uthappa – all of them had played key roles in Super Kings winning the title in 2021. Super Kings also tried hard to get back Faf du Plessis and Thakur but had to quit the bidding race to the rivals with bigger purses.Super Kings even bought back the uncapped pairing of Prashant Solanki and Tushar Deshpande, who were mostly in the reserves last season.Knight Riders bought back Nitish Rana, Pat Cummins and Shivam Mavi and tried hard to buy back the uncapped Indian batter Rahul Tripathi, who became one of the million-dollar buys after Sunrisers signed him for INR 8.5 crore (USD 1.13 million). Sunrisers themselves were not shy to bring back Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan and the uncapped pair of Abhishek Sharma and Priyam Garg, all of whom played for them last season.Mumbai Indians held back their purse for Jofra Archer and Tim David•BCCIBut it was Capitals who matched Super Kings in bidding aggressively for virtually every player who had been part of their roster over the last two seasons. The fact that four key players from their 2021 batch were in the marquee set of ten did not help Capitals, but that did not dissuade them. Having already retained four players before the auction, Capitals bid hard for Shikhar Dhawan, R Ashwin and Kagiso Rabada in the marquee set and later for Shimron Hetmyer and Avesh Khan. In the case of Dhawan, Ashwin and Hetmeyer, Capitals made the penultimate bid. Even for Avesh, who was Capitals’ second-best bowler last season after Anrich Nortje, Capitals raised the paddle until INR 8.75 crore before Super Giants won the bid at INR 10 crore.Conservative and high-risk: franchises take different lanes on auction highway
The pattern of spending the purse this time around was very different from previous auctions. Different teams had different strategies to make up their squads. Most teams went heavy on the first day to pocket as many players as possible for their first XI. Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Royals and Knight Riders spent in excess of 85% of their purse for 9 to 11 players. Consequently, these teams were keen buyers during the accelerated phase of the auction to cover all the slots as well as get as close as possible to the maximum allowed squad size of 25. Royals bought four overseas players within five minutes at the fag end of the auction at base price. However, Punjab Kings and Mumbai were both conservative on the first day for different reasons, spending just around 65% of their respective purses. Kings’ strategy was to go big on a couple of marquee players and play the waiting game so that they could spread their purse till the end of the auction. Still, they managed to pick up 11 players on the first day. This allowed them to buy Liam Livingstone and Odean Smith, two multi-skilled match-winners, at high prices on the second day. In contrast, Mumbai went for the high-risk approach, spending INR 31.5 crore (USD 4.2 million) to secure just three players and a little above half of that figure – INR 16.4 crore (USD 2.2 million) – to get their 18 other players. But if Mumbai remained silent until the accelerated phase, it was because part of their strategy was to bag Jofra Archer and Tim David at high prices. In the end, Mumbai’s recovery was swift and while they might not have the best squad, they still have a decent first XI.Shahrukh Khan is proven finisher for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket•Deepak Malik/BCCILesser-known Indians a hit
Shahrukh Khan was bought back by Punjab Kings for INR 9 crore. Rahul Tewatia, too, got the same amount. Tripathi was clinched by Sunrisers for INR 8.5 crore. Knight Riders did not blink to spend INR 8 crore to bring back Rana, who has performed the No. 3 role for them for the past few years. Sunrisers staved off stiff competition to get Punjab allrounder Abhishek Sharma for INR 6.5 crore while India allrounder Deepak Hooda, who got his maiden international cap days before the auction, was picked by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 5.75 crore. Those were the top five buys among low-profile or emerging Indian talent. The one clear trend to emerge in this auction, and one that might also suggest that the IPL franchises have matured in their strategy, is picking uncapped and fringe Indian talent and willing to pay them more than established Indian names. Shahrukh is recognised as a power-hitting finisher in domestic cricket and has played a big role in Tamil Nadu’s white-ball success in the past few years. Tewatia has not made headlines since that memorable evening in Sharjah where he hit Sheldon Cottrell for five sixes in an over back in 2020, but has the promise of being a good finisher and a decent legspinner.Tripathi has grown from playing cameos to becoming one of the most consistent Indian batters in the IPL. In 2021, he had a strike rate of nearly 147 in the middle overs (overs 7-15) which was the fourth-highest. As for Abhishek, scouts are impressed by his all-round talent that enables him to float in the batting order and also deliver a few overs of left-arm spin. The potential he has for growth is what compelled Sunrisers to pay him more than ten times the price they paid him in 2018 (INR 55 lakhs).Another name that can be added to the list is Punjab left-arm spinner and lower-order batter Harpreet Brar. Remember him? Brar, playing for Kings, silenced Royal Challengers’ top order last IPL by picking up Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell off successive deliveries and AB de Villiers in his next over. He can also smack the ball hard and that is what Kings are likely to have kept in mind before they shelled out INR 3.2 crore to buy him back. Kumble told ESPNcricinfo that the franchise did not think of filling up the eighth overseas spot because they had placed their belief in players like Atharva Taide, an uncapped 21-year-old from Akola in Vidarbha. Taide is an opening batter who bowls handy left-arm spin and impressed scouts during the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments last December. This approach of paying more to fringe talent is also another indicator of the vast pool of Indian players that keeps getting stronger. Not only will it make lesser-known players get exposure and big money, but also limit teams’ over-reliance on overseas players.David Warner was a bargain buy for Delhi Capitals•BCCI/IPLHow auction draw created bargain buys
Bargains are what make markets dynamic. You can get lucky in the IPL auctions, too, if a player comes up at the right time and you have the money and are proactive. Take Capitals, for instance. They knew they could not get all the four players who played for them in 2021 and were part of the marquee set this time. In fact, they got none of them, but bagged the prize catch of David Warner for just INR 6.25 crore. Warner is one of the IPL’s greatest players and was expected to become a multi-millionaire. In Warner, Capitals have found an opener who can play the aggressor or drop anchor, a proven IPL-winning captain, and an ace fielder. Also, his rapport with head coach Ricky Ponting will come in handy. Importantly, Warner and Prithvi Shaw could be one of the IPL’s best opening pairs in the powerplay.A conservative approach from a fair few franchises also ended up affecting the price points of players, especially up front. R Ashwin was bagged by Royals for INR 5 crore, Quinton de Kock went to Super Giants for INR 6.75 crore. Titans might have seemingly had a scrambled auction plan, but they would have been happy to get Jason Roy at his base price of INR 2 crore.Supply and demand can always skew the auction dynamics. If the pool for a certain skillset is shallow, one odd player can get an exponential price. This auction featured a lack of quality Indian wristspinners. Yet, it came as a bit of surprise when Rahul Chahar, Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav were acquired at INR 5.25 crore, 6.5 crore and 2 crore respectively. Similarly, as the auction entered the accelerated phase, the likes of Alex Hales, Evin Lewis, Tymal Mills and Jason Behrendorff – performers in overseas franchise cricket – were all bought at significantly low prices.

Akeal Hosein's Dhaka adventure: 4am arrival followed by Super Over heroics

It has been a very eventful last 36 hours for the West Indies left-arm spinner

Mohammad Isam21-Oct-2025Akeal Hosein reached his hotel room in Dhaka at 4:00am on Tuesday. The West Indies selectors summoned him for the second ODI, following two injuries in the squad. Hosein joined the team in the bus to the Shere Bangla National Stadium around noon. By the end of the night, he was bowling the Super Over for West Indies, defending ten runs.Hosein had an unfavourable match-up with the left-handed Soumya Sarkar taking strike. He started off with a wide and then a no-ball. Bangladesh got four runs without facing a legal ball. Hosein somehow managed to salvage the over from there, avoiding getting hit for a boundary, even though he did concede one more wide with four needed off the last ball. So he had to go again and this time he kept his lines and gave up just one run.”I don’t think I have anything left in me again, buddy,” Hosein said after bringing West Indies back from the brink to level the series 1-1. “Got to the hotel at 4:00am. But it’s part of the job, and once you commit to something and once you give your word, you better be ready to turn up and give 100%. No excuses, and I almost messed it up, but thankfully, you know, I took the team home in the end.”Hosein is a world-class limited-overs performer but this was his first ODI in two years. Granted he was playing on an absolute, raging turner in Dhaka, he was still under pressure bowling the Super Over.Related

Hosein managed to get the ball to turn into the left-hander’s body when Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto were on strike. Against Saif Hassan, he bowled over the wicket, not allowing the right-hander to free his arms.”It’s a tricky pitch,” he said. “It’s not one that is turning at a fair pace. The ball is jumping a bit, so for me, to the left-hander, it was definitely to make him hit square. He’s [Sarkar] quite a powerful guy, so I think that if he has arms, he can hit through the line easily.”So, for me, it was just trying to spin the ball from as close as possible on a good length and force him to hit square, because that square boundary was quite big.”Hosein had faced a similar situation, in the Hundred last year. He didn’t have to bowl the Super Over back then, but did bowl the final set that pushed the game into overtime.”I have been in a situation like this,” Hosein said. “It was an Eliminator in the Hundred. And it started off quite similar. I bowled a no-ball. In the Hundred, a no-ball is two [runs]. And I had to defend nine [10] or something like that. And one ball [the no-ball] went for six, and then they needed two [three] off four [five] balls or something.”I remember Chris Jordan coming up to me, and he said, ‘don’t worry, you got this.’ and I said to myself, ‘if he can believe that I have this, with two [three] runs to go, Liam Livingstone, world-class hitter on strike, with four [five] balls to go, if Chris Jordan can believe, why can’t I believe?'”Hosein said that he was surprised not to see Rishad Hossain come out to bat in the Super Over on Tuesday. West Indies believed the lower-order batter who had confidently struck an unbeaten 39 off 14 balls earlier in the game, was the obvious choice for Bangladesh.”Yes, I was a bit surprised. I mean, the guy that seemed to do the most destruction in the match, 39 off about 14 deliveries not out, and he’s not in your Super Over, hitting to the short side where he struck two sixes.”We all were a bit surprised that he didn’t come out at all, and you know, it worked in our favor. He was one of the few guys who sort of packed that power and he had that reach because he’s quite a tall guy.”Sarkar, who was one of Bangladesh’s batters in the Super Over, said that the captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz and coach Phil Simmons picked the batters for the Super Over.”The coach and captain took the decision,” Sarkar said. “We actually didn’t know Akeal Hosein would bowl. If two left-handers had gone in, and then an off-spinner came on, we would be in trouble. That’s why there was a lefty and a righty. You’ll see the same with their team; they also batted with a lefty [Sherfane Rutherford] and a righty [Shai Hope].”Hosein also shared the funny story about the unusually black coloured surface used for the first Bangladesh-West Indies ODI on Saturday.”I turned my TV on. The first thing that I did was check my TV, because I thought there was something wrong with it. I thought the color had gone or something like that. The pitch was black, and I was like, ‘surely something is wrong with my television'”, he said.

Video Shows Fans' Mad Scramble to Grab Shohei Ohtani's Historic 50-50 Home Run Ball

The 15,548 fans in attendance at loanDepot Park on Thursday night got a chance to witness baseball history, as Shohei Ohtani became the first player in MLB history to notch at least 50 homers and 50 stolen bases in a single season.

Only one of those 15,548 fans walked out of the ballpark with a piece of history, however.

A video posted to social media Thursday night depicted the frantic scene in left field after Ohtani smacked his record-breaking 50th home run. One fan barely missed catching the ball over the railing, and once it fell down to the ground, a swarm of fans all battled for it.

A man wearing a black T-shirt appeared to be the winner of the Ohtani pursuit.

According to MLB Network's Craig Mish, that fan met with Dodgers officials in an attempt to work out an exchange, but he opted to keep the ball and walked out of loanDepot Park with it.

There's no knowing for sure what the ball is worth, but other historic baseballs have gone for lucrative prices in recent years. Aaron Judge's 62nd home run ball that broke the American League's single-season record in 2022 was sold for $1.5 million to an anonymous bidder.

Mandhana: ‘Shafali is a world-class player and always will be’

Smriti Mandhana vs Lauren Bell. It’s a contest Bell, spearhead of England’s seam-bowling attack, couldn’t wait to get stuck into on the eve of the opening match of India’s tour, the first of five T20Is at Trent Bridge on Saturday. For Mandhana’s part, she is looking forward to reprising her opening partnership with Shafali Verma, who is making a comeback – in this format at least – having fallen out of favour after India’s group-stage exit at the T20 World Cup last October and lean ODI returns at home against New Zealand later that month.Mandhana stood in for an unwell Harmanpreet Kaur at India’s pre-match press conference on Friday but expected her captain to be fit to play the first match. She was full of praise for Shafali’s efforts to earn her recall through the domestic circuit and the WPL, where she was the fourth-highest run-scorer with 304 runs at a strike rate of 152.76.Related

The metamorphosis woman – third time could be a charm for Shafali

“She’s had an amazing year,” Smriti said of Shafali. “Once the setback had come, she went to domestic cricket, scored bucket-loads of runs and had an amazing WPL.”No one had any doubts about her talent, the way she had come into the Indian team and dominated. She is a world-class player and always will be, but for her to go back and do what she did in the last year was amazing to watch. She deserves this comeback and I’m really excited to open with her again.”Shafali was the leading run-scorer in the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy (527 runs, 152.31 strike rate, 75.29 average) and the Senior Women’s One-Day Challenger Trophy (414 runs, 145.26 strike rate, 82.80 average) – as captain of Haryana.Shafali Verma was the fourth-highest run-scorer at WPL 2025•BCCI

Mandhana and Shafali are second on the list for most partnership runs as an opening pair in women’s T20Is with 2636 runs and a partnership run rate of 7.90.Bell was keen to catch up with Mandhana, her Southern Brave team-mate in the Hundred, albeit on opposing sides.”I’m looking forward to bowling at Smriti,” Bell said. “I’ve obviously played with her, we’ve had a few net battles at the Brave before, so that’ll be a good challenge, playing against her. It’s exciting to be up against some of the best players and that normally brings the best out when you’re playing against the best.”The last time I played India, it’s always been Smriti and Shafali opening the batting, so it’s a challenge we’ve had before and one that is really exciting. They’re both very talented and play differently, so I’m hoping it just brings the best out of us. As an England player, you really look forward to these series and thrive off the challenge and how good the opposition are.”Last summer, as England went unbeaten through their twin white-ball series against New Zealand, Bell was working on changes to her action, which is now more upright and allows her to swing the ball both ways. She is satisfied with where she’s at but by no means feels that she is the finished article.”In terms of that whole chapter, I’d say I’ve got into a really good place and I feel really, really happy,” Bell said. “But I don’t think you can ever say you’re complete as a bowler.0:56

Bell: ‘Looking forward to bowling at Mandhana’

“There’s always stuff that I want to get better, but the big shift and the big change, I’m feeling in a really good place… hopefully we’ve moved on.”Bell was the leading wicket-taker during the T20I leg of West Indies’ visit, which – like the ODI series – England swept 3-0, with seven wickets at an average of 9.72 and economy rate of 5.66.Her series-best figures of 3-28 in the second T20I at Hove were eclipsed by fellow seamer Em Arlott, with a Player-of-the-Match-winning 3 for 14 having made her international debut just two days earlier in encouraging signs as England prepare for a tougher test from India.”They’ll pose us a few more challenges,” Bell said. “We had people making debuts and some people playing different roles, so they can take a lot of confidence from that. It was a really good series to have first up in the summer.”Meanwhile, India have some new faces in their seam attack, handing maiden T20I call-ups to Kranti Goud and Sayali Satghare for a squad missing the experienced Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar.Mandhana said: “The WPL has been good in terms of finding new people and of course the domestic system as well, the amount of matches the girls play nowadays. All the girls have rich experience in the domestic format.”I’m really excited to see them. Young talent, whenever they come in, it’s always very exciting. Everyone’s been prepping well and what better place than England to come in as a pacer? Of course, they’ll take a lot of lessons out of it and I’m sure they’ll do the job for the team.”
