Crystal Palace Could Sign ‘Special’ £20k-p/w Sensation

Crystal Palace’s transfer window has finally been sparked into life in recent days as the Selhurst Park outfit prepare for the upcoming season.

What’s the latest Crystal Palace transfer news?

It has been confirmed that the Eagles are on the verge of signing 19-year-old wonderkid Matheus Franca in a deal worth up to £26m.

This will be welcome news in what has been an extremely challenging window for the south London outfit. Wilfried Zaha rejected a £200k-per-week deal to join Galatasaray last week, while Michael Olise is attracting interest from Chelsea.

Palace’s other prize assets are also under siege, with Cheick Doucoure, Joachim Andersen, and Marc Guehi also being tracked by other Premier League clubs.

But, in what would follow Franca as another exciting signing brimming with untapped potential, would be the acquisition of Wilfried Gnonto.

According to Football Insider, Roy Hodgson is currently dissatisfied with his attacking options and the club has identified Gnonto as a possibility.

How good is Wilfried Gnonto?

Last season never gave any Leeds United player the chance to thrive. A scattergun transfer policy and a managerial merry-go-round contributed to a complete lack of stability.

Nevertheless, the winger, who only arrived in the Premier League last September, displayed his brilliance in flashes with just limited minutes.

In only 14 top-flight starts, the former Inter Milan academy graduate registered six goal involvements. The £20k-per-week sensation developed a respectable reputation for directness, pace, and agility.

Leeds United forwardWilfried Gnonto.

This was recognised by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville, who showered the Italian in praise, saying: “I've seen a special young talent. Honestly, sometimes you see potential and talent and you are excited but I watched him so closely, and his understanding of where to be, his choice of pass, his choice of when to run with it, his awareness of his teammates, really, really good.”

This sentiment was echoed by his former manager Michael Skubala, who described Gnonto as a “credit” to Leeds.

His profile as a tricky and fearless forward mean that FBref has likened his play style to Dejan Kulusevski, as both rank similarly in several attacking metrics.

This includes shots per 90 (1.46 vs 1.83), shot-creating actions per 90 (3.32 vs 4.25), progressive passes per 90 (2.33 vs 2.86), progressive carries per 90 (4.39 vs 3.77), and successful take-ons per 90 (1.40 vs 2.06).

Dejan Kulusevski

Much like how Gnonto suffered due to Leeds’ fragmented nature, the Swede was also a victim of conditions outside his control. The rigid and restrictive tactics of Antonio Conte, labelled as "survival football" often shunned the influence of more creative assets.

Nevertheless, Conte still acknowledged Kulusevski’s quality, saying: “I think he is showing that he is a fantastic player for the present but also he if he continues in this way he can become a really important player. He is strong physically, good technically, he has no fear of the opponent or the tackle.”

Under the fresh management of Ange Postecoglou, his output could be elevated to new heights, where his skills are more viciously channelled.

Gnonto, now laced with a year of Premier League football under his belt would be a shrewd capture for Palace, one who with his tricky and direct nature could emulate the feats of Kulusevski in English football.

West Ham: Irons Make Contact For "Dominant" Forward

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has shared news on West Ham United's search for forward options and it involves Belgium international Johan Bakayoko.

Who will West Ham sign next?

The Hammers, much to manager David Moyes' delight, have sealed their first major signing of this summer window in midfielder Edson Alvarez after weeks of waiting.

For a long period, West Ham were the only English top flight not to bring in a single player, with the east Londoners seeing transfers hijacked and their best players move on to pastures new.

Declan Rice completed his £105 million move to Arsenal, while striker Gianluca Scamacca left for Atalanta after just one full season in claret and blue.

Man City are also chasing a deal for Brazil international and West Ham star Lucas Paqueta, dealing a real worry for Moyes, but the arrival of Alvarez comes as a welcome boost.

“We’re really pleased to add Edson to our squad,” Moyes said.

“The midfield area was one we were especially keen to strengthen this summer – and Edson will complement the other options we have in that department.

“He’s an experienced international player, who has enjoyed great success for both club and country during his career to date. We’re excited about welcoming to West Ham and seeing him play his part in English and European competition for the club.”

West Ham are closing in other deals too, with the club agreeing a fee for Man United defender Harry Maguire.

Scamacca's departure, though, leaves the Irons with a gaping hole to fill as techinical director Tim Steidten, sporting director Mark Noble, chairman David Sullivan and Moyes get to work.

They have been linked with the likes of Bournemouth forward Dominic Solanke, Arsenal's Folarin Balogun and Montpeillier striker Elye Wahi this week alone.

West Ham United manager David Moyes.

Reporter Tavolieri, sharing news on X, has an update for Hammers supporters as they also eye a move for PSV Eindhoven star Bakayoko.

West Ham are thought to have expressed their interest in the Belgian, essentially informing PSV of their desire to sign the attacker.

However, Serie A champions Napoli are thought to be in the mix as well, dealing West Ham some stern competition in the hunt for Bakayoko's signature.

"Discussions still ongoing with Napoli for Johan Bakayoko," wrote Tavolieri.

"The PSV is still as intransigent and this does not facilitate the evolution of the file. EXCL. West Ham United & 1 other unnamed Premier League club have recently expressed interest in the Diables Rouges. It will move again."

How good is Johan Bakayoko?

Over his 23 Dutch top flight appearances, Bakayoko scored five goals and assisted five others last term, all while ranking among their best for attempts at goal and successful take-ons per 90 (WhoScored).

The 20-year-old is still very young and has potential to grow his game even more, a fact not lost on Ruud van Nistelrooy, who called him a "dominant" forward.

“He is so dominant, sometimes you forget that he is eighteen," said the former Man United striker two years ago.

“He’s a boy who, if he continues to invest in what he’s doing now, hopefully at the end of the season can make a nice step towards first. He’s worked hard on multiple facets of his game, and that’s showing through now. Maintaining this level in the longer term is his goal.”

– Gosto do jogador (Guga).

– O Diego Ribas adiantou bastante.

Rangers Plot Move For £10k-p/w "Threat"

Glasgow Rangers are now turning their attention to signing a defender or two before the summer transfer window closes in just a few weeks.

Michael Beale has already made nine new signings so far, yet just two of them are defenders and given the major mix-up in the box that led to Kilmarnock scoring the winner during the opening 2023/24 Premiership fixture, this area is now a priority.

A recent update has emerged in their pursuit of a defender, with Beale diverting his attention to the English Championship…

Who could Rangers sign this summer?

The Gers showed interest in Jake Cooper back in January and they have kept tabs on him since 2018, when Steven Gerrard was in charge, suggesting that Beale knows the Millwall star rather well.

A fresh update from Football Insider has now claimed that Beale has now ‘set his sights’ on securing his signature before the end of the window.

The Englishman is heading into the final year of his current contract at the club and thus could potentially be lured north of the border for an affordable fee.

Could Jake Cooper improve Rangers?

Beale has five centre-backs to choose from, yet Ben Davies may not have a future at Ibrox.

The former Liverpool defender has been told that he is free to depart the Light Blues following just a year at the club.

2022/23 wasn’t exactly the season Davies had in mind upon joining the Gers last summer, as he ranked way down in 14th position across the squad for overall Sofascore match rating in the Premiership (6.94) while he ranked seventh for interceptions (0.8) and third for clearances (two) per game, failing to have the desired outcome that Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Beale expected.

Rangers defender Ben Davies.

Cooper, in comparison, ranked sixth in the Millwall squad for overall match rating, while also ranking fifth for interceptions (1.2) and first for clearances (3.1) per game, clearly suggesting that he could be an improvement on Davies this season.

It wasn’t just his defensive ability which has obviously caught Beale’s eye over the previous few months, but the fact he can also chip in with the odd goal and assist too.

Indeed, last term, Cooper registered six goal contributions – three goals and three assists – and during his spell in the Championship with the club, there has only been one season out of six where he has failed to score three goals.

It’s no wonder he was lauded as a “threat” by Paul Heckingbottom in 2022. Davies on the other hand, registered just one assist across 38 matches, failing to provide the same attacking threat as Cooper throughout the season.

The £10k-per-week centre-back may not be the marquee name that the supporters will want to see arrive at Ibrox in the coming weeks, yet he offers not only a wonderful defensive acumen but is also capable of posing as something of a weapon at set pieces.

Beale obviously knows all about him and with the opportunity to secure his signature on the cheap, it could be a smart investment by the 42-year-old.

Journalist: Everton player now out injured "for a while"

Former England international Dele has endured a very rough patch in recent years both on and off of the field. Journalist Paul Brown has offered an update to GIVEMESPORT on the future of the Everton midfielder.

What does the Future hold for Dele?

Everton just about avoided relegation last season and Sean Dyche will be hoping he has what it takes to steer them on an upward trajectory.

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Dele wasn’t there to play his part as he was out on loan in Turkey with Besiktas. There was unrest for him there too and so he has had a lot of issues following him around in the last few seasons.

Whilst speaking with The Times, Dyche has given an update on the returning midfielder.

“He is still not over his injury yet, he is well in himself, but he is not over his injury. We are miles away from that (thinking about a squad role). He is just getting himself right again.”

“He is feeling good, and now we will be working with him, on top of that, to make sure the injury is right. But it is still going to be a bit of time yet.”

When speaking with GIVEMESPORT, Paul Brown made his thoughts clear about the future of the 27-year-old at Goodison Park, labelling it as a “tall order” for him to turn around his fortunes on Merseyside.

A few weeks ago, there was talk of Dele being available for loan with several Championship clubs on red alert. Amongst those were Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion who have both already made some attacking additions, including Siriki Dembele and former Sunderland striker Josh Maja respectively.

What has Paul Brown got to say on Dele Alli?

“From what I hear, Dele Alli is injured and won’t return for a while. I think there have been fitness issues there for quite some time, and the financials of the deal he's on make it difficult to justify him getting many chances this season.

“Despite what Dyche might say in public, I'm unsure that Dele is the kind of player he thinks he can rely on. So, I think Everton are probably looking to find a move for Dele Alli if they can.”

What else is going on at Everton?

If reports are to be believed, Everton are hoping to be very busy before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto had something of a breakout year in spite of their relegation back to the Championship and the Toffees are one of the sides wanting to offer him an instant return to the Premier League.

The Italian youngster has been touted as a potential replacement for Demarai Gray if the former Leicester City man is to depart Goodison. Rudy Galetti, when speaking with GIVEMESPORT, alluded to the fact that Gray could be moved on amidst major interest from Fulham.

Southampton’s Kamaldeen Sulemana, another winger, has also been linked with Everton after the Saints finished rock-bottom in the Premier League last season. He only arrived at St. Mary's in January and amassed just under 1,000 minutes in the red and white.

The Bangladesh captain was struck by a bouncer on the third morning of the Bloemfontein Test

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim has been taken to hospital after suffering a blow to his head on the third morning of the Bloemfontein Test. Although he looked shaken when the incident occurred, he batted on for another 40 minutes despite initial advice that he should be assessed. After the game, Mushfiqur confirmed that he had been tested by doctors and found to be okay.”After I got hit, there was a lot of pain,” Mushfiqur said. “I took medication and I tried to be there for my team. After I had a chat with our physio in the middle, I told him I will go off if I can’t bat after 10-15 minutes. I wasn’t 100% but I tried my level best to survive till lunch. I got out before lunch, and then I went to hospital. Doctors did few tests. I am okay at the moment. If I feel bad again, I can go back to the hospital.”Mushfiqur was on 11 when he ducked into a bouncer from Duanne Olivier in the 14th over of the innings and was hit on the left side of his helmet. He did not go to ground immediately but walked to the leg side, sat on his knees and then hunched over. He was surrounded by the South African team and attended to by the Bangladesh management.Bangladesh do not have a team doctor in their camp but a physiotherapist, Thihan Chandramohan, administered on-field treatment to Mushfiqur in the immediate aftermath. South Africa’s team manager, Mohammed Moosajee, who is also a medical doctor, arrived on the scene, inspected Mushfiqur and recommended he leave the field.Given Moosajee’s position as a member of the opposition camp, he could not do any more and soon left the field. Mushfiqur took several more minutes and got a change of helmet before deciding to bat on. He had taken a similar blow in the Wellington Test against New Zealand in January. Then he took the advice of the local doctors and was stretchered off to hospital.A comment was sought from the Bangladesh manager but he is yet to reply. If Olivier was feeling sympathetic, he didn’t show it. The next ball he bowled was also short, but angled down the leg side and Mushfiqur avoided it. He faced 10 more short balls from Olivier, edged him twice but both times the ball fell short of fielders, and hit left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj for two well-timed boundaries before he was given some reprieve.Wayne Parnell replaced Olivier at the Loch Logan End and pitched his first three deliveries up and angled them across Mushfiqur. He shouldered arms to the fourth one, was struck on the pads and given out lbw three minutes before the scheduled lunch break. Mushfiqur reviewed the decision but remained out on umpire’s call.

Tottenham Making Good Steps To Sign "Strong" £12m Defender

Tottenham Hotspur are making positive steps towards a permanent deal to bring Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet back to the Premier League, according to reports.

Is Clement Lenglet leaving Barcelona?

The French centre-back still has another three years to run on his contract at Camp Nou, but having been sent out on a season-long loan to N17 during the previous campaign, that would suggest he’s not in Xavi’s long-term plans moving forward and could therefore be on the move this window, potentially going back to Spurs.

Speaking during a recent public interview, Ange Postecoglou was asked whether the club would be looking to sign a new central defender before September 1, to which he replied:

"That's definitely our intention, absolutely. We've been working on it for a while and we'll definitely try to get it done as quickly as possible. I don't think it's any secret about some of the areas we needed to strengthen.”

The Lilywhites could well be aiming to secure the 28-year-old’s services for good after it was reported that he’s already agreed personal terms and a three-year contract to stage his comeback, and the following update would suggest that a deal is moving in the right direction.

Are Tottenham signing Clement Lenglet?

According to Spanish outlet Sport (via Sport Witness), Spurs are taking "decisive steps" with Barcelona to reach a full agreement for the permanent sale of Lenglet. The Blaugrana want to finalise the defender's future "next week" and are getting "closer" to sanctioning his move to the top flight, though it's worth noting that a loan with a buy option has "not been ruled out".

The two clubs have "good relations" and the positive relationship is helping during negotiations, but the only "stumbling block" so far is the player's €15m (£12m) price tag.

Tottenham Hotspur's loan defender Clement Lenglet.

During his 35 appearances at Tottenham, Lenglet was praised for his “strong” performances by Hugo Lloris and he was certainly a rock at the heart of the backline having averaged 2.6 clearances, 1.7 aerial wins and 1.5 tackles per top-flight game, via WhoScored, so it would be a huge boost should chiefs be able to secure his services once again.

The 6 foot 1 titan, who’s naturally left-footed, also ranked in the 94th percentile for progressive carries so loved to come out from the defence and push the team as high up the pitch as possible which resulted in him providing two assists and even netting a goal himself.

Furthermore, the Beauvais native has the ability to operate out at left-back alongside his usual role at centre-back so he would provide some welcome versatility should any unexpected injuries occur, making him a great option for the manager to have available.

Postecoglou hasn’t yet had the chance to personally work with Lenglet himself, but there’s no doubt that he would have taken a close look at his displays from last season and he must have been impressed to be pursuing a deal which sounds like it could be coming to fruition very soon, so this is definitely one to watch in the weeks ahead.

BPL franchises eye T20 Global League player pool

With the South African Global T20 League postponed, BPL franchises will eye the tournament’s player pool to fill in for those Pakistan players who are set to miss the first two weeks

Mohammad Isam10-Oct-2017A few Bangladesh Premier League franchises are considering reviewing their squads for the 2017 tournament and are looking to sign players freed up by the postponement of South Africa’s T20 Global League. The franchises that have shown most interest in doing so are looking to replace those Pakistan players who will miss the first two weeks of the BPL: the Pakistan Cricket Board had last month made it mandatory for its centrally contracted players to participate in the domestic National T20 Cup.Comilla Victorians have Rumman Raees, Faheem Ashraf, Shoaib Malik, Hasan Ali and Fakhar Zaman on their roster, while Khulna Titans had signed on Shadab Khan, Junaid Khan and Sarfraz Ahmed. Fast bowler Mohammad Amir is part of the Dhaka Dynamites squad, while Usman Khan and Babar Azam have been signed up by Sylhet Sixers.ESPNcricinfo has learned that Comilla and Khulna are already looking for replacements from the players available in the T20 Global League pool. The inaugural edition of the South Africa league, which was scheduled to begin on November 3 and would have clashed with the BPL, was postponed to November 2018 by Cricket South Africa. Other BPL teams, however, have been restricted by the budget that they have already spent on their current squad before and during the BPL draft.Players from the T20 Global League who could be of interest to BPL owners include marquee names like AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis and JP Duminy. Franchises would look at players like Jason Roy, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Smith, David Miller, Brendon McCullum, Dwayne Bravo and Alex Hales.Dhaka’s CEO Obeid Nizam said that despite a nearly complete squad, the franchise is keen on signing more big names. Dhaka are considered to have one of the strongest teams on paper, having already signed up Evin Lewis, Sunil Narine, Shane Watson and Shahid Afridi.”I have been told to look to sign some big names,” Obeid said. “We already have several top players in our side but there are certain cricketers we would like to have in the squad.”An official from another franchise, however, said that while their existing squad is set they will scout for replacements, if required. At the moment, Chittagong Vikings have the fewest foreign players and it’s likely the franchise will try and enlist more to strengthen their squad.

Sri Lanka set for packed India tour

Sri Lanka arrive in India next month for a cramped tour that will have them playing three Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is in 37 days, with the first Test likely to begin in Kolkata on November 16, and final match to be played on December 24.

India v SL fixtures

1st Test: November 16-20, Kolkata
2nd Test: November 24-28, Nagpur
3rd Test: December 2-6, Delhi
1st ODI: December 10, Dharamsala
2nd ODI: December 13, Mohali
3rd ODI December 17, Visakhapatnam
1st T20I: December 20, Cuttack
2nd T20I: December 22, Indore
3rd T20I: December 24, Mumbai

Nagpur and Delhi will host the second and third Tests, before the limited-overs leg kicks off with the first ODI in Dharamsala on December 10. Mohali and Visakhapatnam complete the ODI fixtures, after which the T20Is will be held in Cuttack, Indore and Mumbai. While the BCCI hasn’t made an official announcement yet, ESPNcricinfo verified the schedule with most of the hosting centres. The second Test will be Nagpur’s first Test since the ICC gave the Jamtha surface a ‘poor’ rating during the series against South Africa in 2015. The pitch in Nagpur has since been relaid, and it hosted the fifth ODI between India and Australia on October 1.Indore and Mumbai will be staging their second international games in the space of a few months, both hosting T20Is against Sri Lanka. Indore hosted an ODI against Australia, and Mumbai will host a New Zealand ODI. Thiruvananthapuram, which had been initially allotted a T20I against Sri Lanka, will now host a T20I against New Zealand on November 7 after swapping fixtures with Cuttack.”We were initially supposed to host Sri Lanka in December and Odisha [Cuttack] were supposed to host the New Zealand game in November,” Kerala Cricket Association secretary Jayesh George told ESPNcricinfo. “But, there is a festival in Odisha in November, so we are now hosting the New Zealand game instead.”This will be the second bilateral series between the two teams in the space of a few months. In July-August, India traveled to Sri Lanka and thumped the home side 9-0 across all formats.
